A Bold Statement Door

A Bold Statement Door

If you know Beyond Interior Design, you know that we love a good statement… anything, really. A statement light fixture, a statement vent hood in a kitchen, a statement art piece AND a statement front door. Statement front doors (especially a pivot door) are integral to giving your home the curb appeal that it deserves. A front door is the first thing that most people notice in a home and it should reflect the overall personality of the home. It is as if the front door was giving you a hint of what is to be expected once inside. With a bold and jaw dropping first impression at risk, your door has to provide the awe factor without losing any of its functionality. Let’s take a look at what makes a bold statement door.

Curb Appeal

A statement front door needs to add a unique look to your home’s exterior to help it stand out from the rest of the houses in your neighborhood. Whether it is the use of color, texture or simply sheer size, this design change can be a low risk and low cost way to increase the value of the home and make it more attractive to potential buyers. If you are not planning on selling any time soon, the use of a statement door will still help differentiate your home from the others on the street by giving it a head turning touch that no one can resist.

Diverse Materials

The materials used in a statement door can completely change the aesthetics and overall look of a home. Whether the door material is used to complement the facade of the home or to contrast it from other surrounding elements, the chosen material can set the tone for the space. Using natural materials like wood can warm up the entrance to a, perhaps, modern and more geometric home. The use of glass, for example, would open up the entrance by making it appear larger and more airy while the use of steel or other metal would create a more rustic or industrial feel. No matter the material, accenting the entrance of the home automatically creates a sense of adventure and excitement as one enters the home.

Pivot Doors

As far as front doors are concerned, the pivot door takes the cake for making the boldest statement. A pivot door is a type of door that is mounted on a single pivoting hinge. This type of door requires a top and bottom pivot point and is usually top hung, meaning the door is suspended from the top of the frame and swings open from the bottom. That mechanism is what helps create the wow factor that people enjoy watching when this type of door swings open. Pivot doors have been popular in commercial settings such as retail centers, restaurants and office buildings, but more and more they are being used in residential homes. Because of their rarity in residential settings, a pivot door automatically creates the statement needed for the front of your home.
